CZ Uninstalls “Questionable” Apps After Scary Results from TikTok Scan

TikTok has been under heavy criticism of late, especially after the Indian government banned the application, along with a bunch of others, citing security issues. Several countries have started to raise questions on the Chinese social networking application, and things are getting only worse. Recently, a Reddit user posted shocking results of a reverse engineering scan on TikTok, which has raised alarming questions on the data security and privacy threats the application poses.

Reacting to the post, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, or CZ, tweeted that the result was “pretty scary” and that he has uninstalled all the “questionable” applications on his mobile device. He further added that he has directed his team at Binance to assure that their apps don’t require many permissions, and don’t collect information without informing the users.

In the original Reddit post, the user alleged that TikTok was a data collection service disguised as a social network. The user listed a number of data security and privacy breaches by the app, which collects way more information than other platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

The gravity of this is much more magnanimous than we can imagine. For reference, we know how Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica scandal turned out, and how a mockery of data privacy was done by the social media giant. And if Facebook appears to be humble in its comparison, there’s some serious problem with TikTok.
