Ripple Advances European Expansion, Secures Key EMI License in Luxembourg

Ripple, a prominent blockchain-based payments platform, is making a bold push into Europe. Today, the company announced that it secured a preliminary approval for its Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF). It represents a significant step in Ripple’s vision of expanding its cross-border payments in Europe.

This EMI license marks the second major regulatory milestone of Ripple in just one week. Last week, the company acquired an EMI license and Cryptoasset Registration from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

With these latest approvals, the firm now holds about 75 regulatory licenses worldwide. This makes it one of the strongest players in the crypto and blockchain ecosystems.

Ripple Strengthens UK Foothold with New License

Ripple has announced another major license from the UK regulators. According to Ripple’s press release, the blockchain platform has Luxembourg’s CSSF has provided Ripple a preliminary approval for its EMI license. President Monica Long stated,

“The EU was amongst the first major jurisdictions to introduce comprehensive digital assets regulation, which provides the certainty financial institutions need to move blockchain from pilots to commercial scale. By extending Ripple’s licensing portfolio and evolving our payments solution, we are doing more than just moving money. We are managing the end-to-end flow of value to unlock trillions in dormant capital and moving legacy finance into a digital future.“

With this development, the platform is moving closer to its vision of expanding its cross-border payment network across Europe. The platform aims to modernize the global payments system, making its blockchain-based platform accessible to all.

This preliminary approval represents an important step toward Ripple acquiring its full EMI authorization, pending certain conditions. The move also highlights the team’s interest and commitment to Europe. The company already has its offices in London, Dublin, Luxembourg, Geneva, and Reykjavik.

While the final approval will enable the firm to establish its services in Luxembourg, the region itself presents a welcoming atmosphere. Ripple UK’s Managing Director, Cassie Craddock, thanked the CSSD for its progressive stance, adding, “Luxembourg is establishing itself as a premier hub for financial innovation by providing the harmonised framework and legal certainty that our industry needs.” Craddock further noted,

“Gaining our preliminary approval is a pivotal step, enabling Ripple to provide essential blockchain infrastructure to clients across the EU. By prioritizing compliant operations, Ripple is empowering the region’s businesses to lean into the next era of financial innovation.”

Second Regulatory Win in a Week

Recently, Ripple secured an EMI license and cryptoasset registration from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). This license allows the firm to offer regulated payment services to the UK market. It opens more flexible, faster, and cheaper payment options for UK users. Monica stated, “Finance is undergoing a fundamental shift, and we are rapidly moving beyond pilots into a new era where blockchain and digital assets serve as critical infrastructure for the global economy.” She added,

“Extending Ripple’s licensing portfolio and payments solution is about more than just efficiency; it is about unlocking trillions in dormant capital and realising a world where value moves instantaneously. We are thrilled to see the UK embracing the compliant infrastructure necessary to make this vision a reality.”

These developments highlight the platform’s long-standing commitment to the UK. As Craddock stated, “The UK has a well-deserved reputation for high regulatory standards.”
