Polygon Madhugiri Upgrade Goes Live: Here’s What You Need To Know

The polygon blockchain has taken a significant leap forward with the successful launch of the Madhugiri Hardfork. This major network upgrade is designed to deliver performance enhancements, improve network stability, and provide a robust foundation for potential growth.

Upgrading to the Future: Polygon Madhugiri Hardfork Delivers Major Improvements

Polygon has launched the Madhugiri Hardfork, a significant network upgrade that enhances throughput, stability, and scalability across its Proof-of-Stake (PoS) network. This major initiative boosts the performance with a 33% increase in throughput and enables further speed enhancement in the future without requiring many changes.

As per an X post shared by Polygon, the Madhugiri upgrade went live today at 10:00 UST. The post read,

“Polygon is upgrading to make future speed boosts easier to ship, and increasing network throughput by 33%. The Madhugiri Hardfork makes certain throughput increases as easy as flipping a few switches. It also continues to improve network stability and adds support for Ethereum’s Fusaka EIPs, strengthening core network security.”

Notably, this upgrade is the result of the lessons learned from the previous forks and improvements. Thus, the Madhugiri Hardfork represents a culmination of meticulous planning, development, and testing. The move addresses structural limitations and incorporates valuable feedback, and thus creates a robust, scalable, and adaptable network.

Unveiling Key Features

Interestingly, the Madhugiri Hardfork was deployed at 10:00 UTC on December 9, bringing several critical enhancements to the Polygon network. Key features include faster node synchronisation, enhanced block production, strengthened execution layer, Fusaka EIPs support, etc.

In detail, the upgrade ensures improved synchronisation of nodes, introducing a more efficient and streamlined network. It also improves the reliability of block production, contributing to a more stable and secure network. The hardfork also brings stronger characteristics to protect the execution layer, reinforcing overall network security. The support for Fusaka Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) is also worth noting, as it enhances cross-chain security and ensures better interoperability.

Additionally, the Polygon Madhugiri hardfork presents key proposals like PIP-75, PIP-74, EIP-7883, EIP-7825, and EIP-7823. These proposals collectively aim to improve the network’s scalability, security, and performance, ensuring a more efficient blockchain ecosystem.

The upgrade is also a part of Polygon’s broader GigaGas roadmap, which aims to achieve a long-term capacity of 100,000 transactions per second. The platform intends to focus on protocol segments and redesigning bridge components in future developments to reach this ambitious vision.

POL Token Continues Its Downward Trend

Despite this major development, the POL token, previously known as MATIC, is hardly showing positive signs. Since the start of 2025, the cryptocurrency is showing a downtrend, with the price hitting lower lows.

As of press time, POL is trading at $0.1238, down by a marginal 0.4% in a day. Although it surged by 1.9% in a week, POL has seen a massive decline of about 30% over the past month. This indicates the community’s waning confidence in the POL token despite the Polygon network’s increasing efforts.
